The Carnegie Library which is close to Denmark Hill and Herne Hill, is a picturesque Grade II listed building.
Forcia have been appointed to carry out the basement shell and core works for Lambeth Council. The scheme will change the use of a proportion of the space resulting in a portion of the floorspace being used as a gym.
The works include the retention of the existing library together with the erection of two single storey extensions to the south west elevation. Undergoing the excavation of the basement will allow for the library basement to be converted into a gym and studio.
Works to be carried out by Forcia include: Existing columns supporting the ground floor will be underpinned and sections of the masonry walls removed and certain openings enlarged. Existing basement cloakroom fittings including sanitary ware, finishes and partitions will be stripped out to permit reconfiguration and expansion of these facilities with alterations at ground floor level comprising forming a new door to the existing stairwell, removal of existing and provision of new partitions.
